Position Summary:

The Vice President, General Manager – France and Benelux (Central Cluster) will be responsible for driving the overall business, strategy and shaping the Go To Market model across these countries as the Ultragenyx organization grows its footprint and prepares to launch 2-4 key new rare disease assets in the coming 5 years. The General Manager will be responsible for the long-term sustainability of the Cluster, according to company policies, and overall applicable regulations/legislation in its area of coverage.

The VP, GM will collaborate with cross functional leaders at Global, EMEA Region and across other country clusters to design innovative business models, optimize field readiness for new launches, expand omnichannel capabilities, ensure operational excellence and shape the portfolio lifecycle management in alignment with the company’s mission.

The ideal candidate has deep experience in affiliate management and execution in the designated cluster countries, product launches – pre and post EMA approval, pricing and market access negotiations with payers, omnichannel/digital and field excellence, strong skills in leadership, management and organizational rigor, communication and stakeholder management and a track record of success in bringing innovative rare disease therapies to patients.

Work Model:

Flex: This role will typically require onsite work 2-3 days each week, or more depending on business needs. In many locations, the business will set certain days each week that Flex employees are required to be onsite.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and execute robust cluster strategy for successful launches of rare disease products across different therapeutic areas and delivery platforms (e.g. Small molecule, Gene Therapies, Biologics) for France and Benelux, aligned with regional and global objectives and strategy.
  2. Drive revenue growth and ensure achievement of commercial targets. Optimize profitability & the cluster P&L through effective budgeting, planning and financial management.
  3. Build and manage a scalable, high performing team including field resources, medical affairs, market access and pricing, business operations.
  4. Drive a culture of excellence and achieve operational effectiveness by developing talent and continuing to build key capabilities to support growthLead product launches, market access, and pricing strategies across the cluster in strong collaboration with the respective EMEA regional leaders.
  5. Define and execute strategies for unlicensed products ensuring alignment with global objectives, key milestones and deliverables. Oversee the development of lifecycle management strategies to maximize the value of the Ultragenyx product portfolio in the cluster.
  6. Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including healthcare providers, payers, regulators, policy and government affairs and patient advocacy groups.
  7. Oversee compliance with EU and local regulatory, legal and healthcare compliance requirements in close partnership with the Responsible Pharmacist and the Regional team.
  8. Lead regional & global leadership on portfolio strategy, lifecycle management, and business development.
  9. Represent the company externally at conferences, industry events, and in policy and media engagements.
  10. Monitor competitive landscape and market trends to inform strategic decisions.
  11. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, agility, and accountability within the cluster team.

Requirements:

  1. Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Business, or related field (MBA, MD, PharmD, PhD preferred).
  2. 15+ years of progressive experience in biopharmaceutical leadership and management oles with responsibility for P&L, including leadership positions in the EMEA region.
  3. Direct commercial experience in France is a must, such as GM France, Business Unit Head for this geography or similar" with demonstrated success in launching and managing rare disease or specialty care products
  4. Deep understanding of the cluster (France and Benelux) healthcare systems, reimbursement pathways, and regulatory environments
  5. Strong experience in building and managing cross-functional and multi-country teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.
  6. Proven expertise in designing and executing go-to-market strategies in complex healthcare environments.
  7. Expertise in lifecycle management, field operations, and digital marketing strategies.
  8. Exceptional strategic planning, operational execution, and strong financial acumen with experience managing P&Ls and optimizing resource allocation.
  9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in French and English; Dutch or Flemish is a plus.
  10. Experience working in start-up or scale-up environments highly desirable.
  11. Willingness to travel frequently across France, Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
  12. Existing network within the biotech and healthcare ecosystem in France and Benelux is a strong asset.
