Radar Reinvented.

Echodyne offers the world’s first compact solid-state true beam-steering radar for a wide range of industries and applications. Our high-performance radars work in all weather and are designed for autonomous vehicles, uncrewed aircraft & drones, and security of borders, critical infrastructure, and smart cities. The company combines the patented technology of metamaterials with powerful software to create a radar sensor with unprecedented performance at commercial price points. Echodyne offers its radars to companies working in Automotive, Transportation, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Border Security, Smart Cities, Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS), and Airspace Management including Urban Air Mobility (UTM).

Echodyne is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our fast-growing team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In this role, you will lead the maturation and sustainment of Digital & Mixed-Signal hardware subsystems for advanced radar systems, ensuring technical excellence and fostering strong cross-functional collaboration.
  • You will dive deep into ideation, design, prototyping, verification, transition to manufacturing, and long-term sustainment of printed circuit board assemblies and subsystems, serving as the primary technical point of contact for related engineering activities. This includes driving design-shaping discussions and technical reviews with multidisciplinary teams—such as Systems, Software, Mechanical, and Manufacturing to develop robust radar architectures, resolve complex technical challenges, and align work with program objectives and Design for Excellence (DFX) principles.
  • You will provide technical expertise in digital and mixed signal circuit design, simulation, and analysis to guide design execution, verification planning, and risk mitigation. Additionally, you will define and architect production test strategies and supporting infrastructure to enable efficient, reliable manufacturing and quality assurance.
  • Throughout the product lifecycle, you will lead root-cause investigations, trade studies, and continuous improvement initiatives to sustain and enhance subsystem performance.

REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

Education & Experience

  • BSEE with 7 or more years of experience in mixed-signal and digital circuit design
  • Strong foundation in digital & mixed-signal circuit theory and hands-on experience developing high-reliability commercial or consumer products
  • Practical experience applying principles of Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, and Test to improve product quality, testability and yield throughout the design lifecycle

Digital & High-Speed Design in Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs)

  • Experience designing printed circuit schematics and layouts for designs such as those requiring high-speed digital interfaces to devices like FPGAs, SoCs, and PHYs
  • Experience co-designing layouts that meet impedance control, timing and other signal integrity requirements for of high-speed buses such as those used for DDR memory implementations
  • Familiarity with high-speed data converters (Msps or Gsps ADCs and DACs) and the best practices required for successful PCBA implementation
  • Overall understanding of PCBA stackup definition, transmission line theory, impedance matching, crosstalk, and isolation for reliable high-speed performance

Circuit Design for PCBAs

  • Experience designing with core circuit building blocks including operational amplifiers, logic gates, clock buffers, level shifters, power management ICs, current mirrors, charge pumps, oscillators, and voltage regulators
  • Strong knowledge of mixed-signal communication protocols used in both primary and peripheral systems such as SPI, I²C, UART
  • Experience designing conductively cooled electronics and applying thermal management techniques for high-performance systems
  • Expertise in electronic SMT compatible component selection and layout optimization, balancing efficiency, thermal performance, and signal integrity
  • Hands-on experience in PCBA board bring-up, Acceptance Testing, and Design Verification, ensuring seamless transitions from eval to prototype to production

Testing & Verification

  • Skilled in debugging and troubleshooting complex, multi-subsystem designs using electronics lab equipment
