Our Finance and Accounting Team is seeking a hybrid Assistant Controller. The Assistant Controller supports the Controller and senior finance leadership in managing all aspects of the company’s accounting operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring financial accuracy and adherence to US and foreign regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, hands-on experience managing day-to-day transactional accounting activities, experience in an environment with foreign operations and subsidiaries, a working knowledge of accounting concepts applicable to U.S. federal contractors, the ability to lead and mentor a growing accounting team, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to partner effectively with leadership and external advisors. You must be diligent and proactive, show excellent business judgment and strategic thinking, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a collegial, fast-paced team environment. The essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Accounting Operations & Reporting
- Oversee daily accounting functions including accounts payable, employee travel/expense reimbursements, payroll, billing and accounts receivable.
- Oversee general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, fixed assets and project accounting.
- Oversee monthly accounting close/consolidation process and ensure accuracy and compliance with US GAAP and internal policies.
- Prepare and review consolidated financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
- Support financial information needs for management and external stakeholders.
- Internal Controls
- Maintain robust internal controls and documentation to support financial integrity and audit readiness.
- Oversee financial audits and reviews.
- Process Improvement & Systems
- Enhance accounting and compliance processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Oversee accounting systems (e.g. ERP, Concur Travel & Expense, payroll and timekeeping systems) and support implementations and updates to systems.
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise, train, and develop accounting team members.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support business needs and initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Develops relationships with team members built on trust and respect.
Education and work experience requirements are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience in a mid-sized (~$200M+) or greater environment, with at least 3 years under a multinational federal contractor preferred.
- Experience with government / DOD programs and contracting desired. Experience with both product and service businesses desired.
- Public accounting experience and CPA/CPA candidate is preferred.
To be considered for this position, you would need to meet, at a minimum, the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed here:
- Experience managing accounting responsibilities identified above across multiple international countries and currencies.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and working knowledge of FAR and CAS.
- Knowledge of contract types (cost-plus, time and materials, fixed price) and related revenue recognition.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with system implementations and demonstrated success identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy, together with the ability to manage several simultaneous projects under deadline pressure.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; must be able to ask clear, concise questions.
- Ability to take initiative and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced corporate environment.
