Requirements

Must-haves

  • 5+ years of software development experience in database administration
  • Experience with SQL Server administration in cloud environments (MSSQL, AWS EC2)
  • Experience with PostgreSQL
  • Experience with managed and serverless database services (RDS, Aurora)
  • Proficiency with advanced SQL development and performance optimization
  • Ability to design, debug, and tune complex queries, stored procedures, and views
  • Deep knowledge of database maintenance practices including indexing strategies, backup validation, and patching
  • Ability to monitor database systems and implement continuous performance improvement initiatives
  • Strong communication skills in both spoken and written English

Nice-to-haves

  • Startup experience
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development and automation tools (Cursor, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, Claude Code, Codex)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent

What you will work on

  • This is a full-time role (40 hours/week) for a 6-month contract
  • Lead database administration activities focused on SQL Server environments running on AWS EC2
  • Optimize database health, performance, and scalability across production systems
  • Diagnose and resolve performance issues using SQL Server logs, extended events, and execution plans
  • Configure and maintain high availability and disaster recovery setups (AlwaysOn, backups, restores)
  • Tune database and instance-level settings including memory management, MaxDOP, and resource usage
  • Manage and optimize cloud-based database workloads to ensure high availability and reliability
  • Work with both managed and serverless database deployments when applicable
  • Contribute to sprint planning and delivery workflows using Linear
  • Manage database code changes (DDL, DML, scripts) through GitHub using feature branches and pull requests
