Historically, US Healthcare has relied on a fee-for-service reimbursement system where providers are paid based on the quantity of patient visits and procedures, rather than the quality of health outcomes.

About the position:

We are looking for an Engineering Manager who can balance both technical contributions (read: write code) and people management. In this role, you will partner closely with engineering leadership to drive the overall technical direction of the Platform team over our next phase of growth. You’ll get to work cross-functionally to support the launch of new products and features by building out the data architecture that informs and drives insights at Stellar.

Your mission will be to provide Stellar with cutting-edge, reliable, and easy-to-use infrastructure for ingesting, storing, processing, and extracting valuable insights from data in order to enable downstream users to be successful. The team is tight-knit with high ownership, so your work will have a meaningful impact on our ability to directly improve patient access to health care.

The Platform team

The Platform handles external integrations, data ingestion, normalization and transformation. In partnership with our technical implementation and analytics teams, it also owns data quality, performance measurement and enables advanced analytics and data science applications.

On this team, you’ll build and manage ETLs and the infrastructure that makes them easily configurable and more automated. You’ll orchestrate complex workflows that process billions of claims for millions of patients, and you’ll create foundational data models that allow our analytics partners to build quickly and safely on top of robust, correct data.

Key highlights and technical challenges of this team:

  • Handle data from 10M+ patients being ingested on a regular cadence, often in a fully automated way.
  • Build and maintain over 60 integrations, including batch processing and event based processing, doubling every year.
  • Maintain a high degree of data safety and quality.
  • Continue to lower costs, decrease turn around time and raise quality from data ingestion to data consumption to insight generation.
  • Create tools, automation and framework to streamline and build reliable data ingestion pipelines.

What you’ll do:

  • Own the technical direction and impact of the Platform team. You’ll be responsible for its capabilities, quality and capacity
  • Manage and grow the team. Actively participate in the recruiting and retention of team members.
  • Write production quality code and provide effective and constructive feedback by reviewing others’ designs and work.
  • Set consistent standards for code; testing and fixing bugs throughout the process and managing your team to do the same
  • Contribute to Stellar’s Engineering Culture. Participate in x-org technical and leadership forums to create a high performing organization.
  • Work with senior engineering and product leaders in aligning on product roadmaps, specifications, and priorities.

As Engineering Manager you should have:

  • At least ten years of total experience, with recent hands-on experience writing production level code (Python (preferred) / Java / C++ / Go)
  • At least 3 years of experience managing software development teams with hands-on involvement in system architecture, design and performance
  • Experience in a platform or infrastructure role (large scale system architecture design and implementation, with a focus on APIs, storage, data pipelines)
  • Expertise in a cloud platform such as AWS (preferred), GCP, Azure
  • Expertise in relational databases, such as PostgreSQL
  • Experience with Django or with a similar web framework

Pay:

The salary range for this role is $220,000 - $260,000 and will be eligible for performance based variable compensation. Where a new hire falls within this range will be based on their individual skills and experience, and how these competencies compare across other employees in the same role. Stellar's bands are designed to allow for individual compensation growth within the role. As such, new hires typically start at the lower end of the range. Stellar rewards performance and outcomes - should you join the company, you will have the opportunity to grow your salary over time.
