About SelfMade
SelfMade is an AI-enabled performance creative agency. We've delivered 300M+ assets for brands like Samsonite, The Sill, RXBAR, Belgian Boys, Keeps, OpenStore, and Nutrisense, spanning fashion, beauty, wellness, food and beverage, and lifestyle. The thing that makes us different is the system underneath the work. More than 60% of paid performance comes from the creative, so we treat "what should we make next" as a science, not a guess.
We built our own stack to run that science. A gap-analysis tool that compares what a brand is running against its category and specific competitors. A dashboard that pulls in every ad a brand has ever run, tagged by persona, angle, emotion, and format, with time-series so we can see exactly what's winning and what's fatiguing. A social-listening engine with 30+ custom scrapers crawling Reddit, Amazon, reviews, and the rest of the web to surface what real buyers actually care about. Put those three together and you get a prioritized list of what to make and what to stop testing. Then we draft and produce against it.
We're heavily AI-native. We concept and build with Claude Code, our own Cloud MCP, and AI image and video generation, and one strategist on good tooling can out-produce a whole team of editors.
That's the bet, and it's working.
The Role
We're hiring a Creative Strategist to sit between the data, the creative, and the client. You'll work directly with our CEO, live in our internal tools, find the gaps, generate the net-new concepts that fill them, produce the assets, and write the copy that makes them convert. This starts part-time or contract, and it's a real on-ramp to a full-time seat.
What you'll do
- Mine our tools for the next concept. Use the gap analysis, the persona/angle/emotion/format dashboard, and the social-listening output to turn a wall of data into a clear, prioritized make list. This is the core of the job and it's more science than art.
- Generate net-new concepts. Brief and draft ads that fill the open gaps and build on past winners, so we're compounding learnings instead of taking a fresh swing every week.
- Produce your own assets with AI. Build finished static ads and generate b-roll yourself using AI image and video tooling. You're not just briefing a designer and waiting, you can take a concept all the way to a shippable asset.
- Write the copy. Hooks, headlines, scripts. One clear message that lands in 1 to 3 seconds beats clever every time.
- Work in AI tools every day. Get from idea to finished asset fast using Claude Code, our Cloud MCP, and AI image/video generation. This is how we work, not a side experiment.
- QC and give feedback. Pressure-test the design team's assets against the brief and our standards before anything ships.
- Keep delivery moving on Asana. Own the brief-to-delivery cadence (briefs out Monday, assets delivered Friday) so nothing slips.
What we're looking for
- You can generate your own static ads and b-roll with AI. You're hands-on with AI image and video tooling and can produce finished, on-brand assets yourself, not just concept them. This is core to how the role works.
- You're genuinely comfortable with AI tools, especially Claude Code. You use them to move faster and produce real work, not as a novelty. This one is non-negotiable given how we operate.
- You're a strong copywriter with a real point of view on what makes an ad convert.
- You can turn data into a concept. Looking at a dashboard and deciding what to make next is the part of this job you should actually enjoy.
- A discerning eye for quality and the small details that make or break an asset.
- Hands-on experience creating or overseeing performance ads (UGC, static, and video for direct response), and a feel for concepting, storytelling, and what makes a top performer.
Nice to have
- 2 to 3 years at an agency or on an in-house performance/growth team.
- Real familiarity with Meta as a performance channel (creative fatigue, iteration, persona testing).
- Experience with brands in fashion, beauty, wellness, or food and beverage.
Why join
- Work directly with the founder on real accounts from day one, no being passed off to "the office manager."
- A genuinely AI-first shop where the tooling is a competitive edge, not a buzzword.
- Flexible hours, remote-first, lean team, and a clear path from contract to full-time.
Compensation
Part-time rate is competitive and based on experience, with full-time potential as you prove impact.
How to apply
Email will@selfmade.co, janet@selfmade.co, and ines@selfmade.co with three things:
- Your resume.
- A short note. Who you are and why this role. Keep it real, not a cover-letter performance. We're all about conversational tones here.
- One ad, broken down. This is the part that matters most, and it's how we screen instead of a pile of intro calls (see below).
The one-ad test
Pick a real ad. A DTC brand you actually like is ideal (wellness, supplements, food and beverage, or personal care is our world, but any consumer brand is fair game). Send the ad itself, a screenshot or link is fine, plus a short note covering two things:
- What it's testing. The persona it's speaking to, the angle, and the emotion it's pulling (the brain or the heart).
- What you'd test next. Assume this ad is a top performer. What's the next concept you'd run off the back of it, and why? We want to see how you build on a winner rather than start from scratch.
- Generate a net-new static ad or a piece of video b-roll based on your hypothesis
