Scribe Therapeutics is a molecular engineering company focused on creating best-in-class in vivo therapies that permanently treat the underlying cause of disease. Founded by CRISPR inventors and leading molecular engineers Benjamin Oakes, Brett Staahl, David Savage, and Jennifer Doudna, Scribe is overcoming the limitations of current genome editing technologies by developing custom engineered enzymes and delivery modalities as part of a proprietary, evergreen CRISPR by Design™ platform for CRISPR-based genetic medicine.

The Role:

We are seeking a highly creative, passionate, and motivated individual to join us in our quest to develop the next generation of CRISPR-based therapeutics. Reporting to our Chief Business Officer, the current role is for a Director/Sr. Director, People Team to develop, lead and implement initiatives and support the overall company strategy.

The Director/Sr Director will have a passion for prioritizing the company culture while influencing the areas of talent management, employee engagement, change management, organizational and leadership development. Additionally, the candidate will bring expertise in being an advisor to the leadership team. The candidate will design and execute a human resources strategy that will support both near and longer-term goals and objectives by leading the development of strategic People Team practices which promote value and culture, drive employee performance, engagement, and accountability, motivate workers, and attract and retain the best talent. The Director/Sr Director will lead a small People team.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the leadership team in supporting overall company objectives.
  • Create, drive and communicate initiatives related to organizational effectiveness and design, employee engagement, and culture strategies.
  • Serve as a key custodian of Scribe’s unique culture and values; ensuring that the core DNA of the organization is maintained as the company grows and prepares to move into the clinic.
  • Develop the company’s Total Rewards policies, including salary philosophy, compensation benchmarking, equity compensation policy, benefits policies, etc.
  • Create an engagement and retention strategy, including appropriate development opportunities which incentivize employees and ensures they are connected to the company.
  • Develop and implement effective leadership and talent development programs that enhance the overall organizational effectiveness and design which reflects Scribe’s current needs and a strategy for future growth.
  • Enhance the People Team functions and ensure adequate systems and policies are in place for our employees.
  • Foster a driven, fast-paced, dynamic, and fun environment in which to do rigorous science, while ensuring and maintaining Scribe’s culture and values.
  • Continuously improve the employee journey from onboarding, culture, feedback (1-1’s, 360 reviews, performance reviews), career pathing, and other People Team initiatives.
  • Ensuring training and support for the workforce at all levels of the organization
  • Partnering with the leadership team to continuously recognize employee accomplishments
  • Grow our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts to ensure Scribe is an incredible workplace for anyone and everyone

Required Skills and Background:

  • Proven experience and passion leading the People Team/HR function, with an established track record of delivering results. The ability to be a strategic leader while remaining hands on.
  • Deep and broad knowledge of People/HR processes such as workforce planning, performance management, talent reviews, and change management.
  • BS degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field is highly desired. An MBA or related Masters’ degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in People Team/HR roles within high growth companies. Which includes 6+ years of experience in leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success in fast paced, innovative biotech/life sciences companies, both privately and publicly held.
  • Track record of integrity, discretion, and ethical behavior
  • Proven successful interpersonal skills, coaching and listening skills, and the ability to communicate within all levels of the organization
  • Solid understanding of CA and US employment laws
  • Excellent collaboration, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Strong technology skills, experience with G-Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, Forms) preferred. Creative and advanced presentation skills.
  • Fluency with HRIS systems (Greenhouse, Lattice, TriNet)
  • This role is onsite (four-five days/week) at our Alameda headquarters.

The offered pay range will depend on internal equity and the candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications, training, and market data.
