About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to manage the financial operations of our organization. This position is integral to overseeing the company’s financial health, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, managing cash flow, and supporting operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in audit, tax, cost accounting, inventory management, and financial operations. Previous experience in the life science/bioscience industry and fundraising is strongly preferred. Primary Responsibilities Audit & Tax Compliance: - Oversee the company’s internal and external audit processes, ensuring accurate reporting and adherence to financial regulations.
- Manage tax filings, reporting, and compliance with local, state, and federal tax requirements.
- Work closely with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure efficient audits and tax filings.
Cash Flow Management: - Monitor and manage the company’s cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity to meet operational needs and strategic goals.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and perform regular variance analysis.
- Optimize cash management strategies to balance liquidity and profitability.
Monthly Closes & Financial Reporting: - Lead the monthly close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in the preparation of financial statements.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis.
- Ensure that financial reports provide actionable insights for senior management.
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management: - Develop and maintain cost accounting systems to track and allocate costs accurately.
- Oversee inventory management, ensuring accurate reporting of inventory levels and valuation.
- Lead the development and analysis of inventory cost models to support pricing, procurement, and operational decision-making.
Accounts Payable (AP) & Accounts Receivable (AR): - Oversee the AP and AR processes, ensuring accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices and customer receipts.
- Manage cash disbursements and collections processes to optimize working capital.
- Work with cross-functional teams to improve payment and collections cycles.
Financial Operations & Support for Operations: - Collaborate with operational teams to identify financial efficiencies and support decision-making.
- Provide financial analysis to support business operations, including cost reductions, pricing strategies, and profitability analysis.
- Support operational teams with budget preparation, forecasting, and cost control.
Procurement: - Lead the procurement initiatives ensuring efficient management of purchasing processes and costs.
- Monitor procurement activities to ensure compliance with company policies and optimize supplier relationships.
Fundraising Support (Preferred Experience): - Support fundraising efforts by providing financial information and due diligence support to investors or stakeholders.
- Assist in the preparation of financial models and projections for fundraising initiatives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: - Work closely with senior leadership and department heads to align financial and operational goals.
- Provide financial insights to non-financial managers to improve overall company performance.
Position Requirements Education: - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- CPA or CMA certification (preferred).
- MBA or relevant advanced degree (a plus).
Experience: - Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in financial management, with a focus on audit, tax, cost accounting, inventory management, and financial reporting.
- Experience in the life sciences or bioscience industry is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience with fundraising and investor relations is a plus.
Skills: - Expertise in financial software and ERP/Budgeting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Planful, Hyperion, SAP, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proficient in Google Suite products, Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
