About The Role

The Credentialing Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate provider credentialing records to ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and payer requirements. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of provider credentialing and knowledge of behavioral health licensing requirements. This role plays a critical part in supporting provider onboarding, recredentialing and ongoing compliance while collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and external entities. This role also ensures accuracy and compliance with internal policies as well as guidelines established by regulatory agencies.

What You'll Do

  • Process initial credentialing and re-credentialing applications for behavioral health providers (i.e. psychologists, LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCs) in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
  • Verify provider credentials including licensure, education, training, board certification (if applicable), work history and malpractice coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and payer regulations as well as accreditation standards (ie. NCQA, CMS)
  • Maintain accurate and up to date provider records in the credentialing database and other internal platforms.
  • Track credentialing status, expirables and recredentialing cycles to prevent lapses.
  • Communicate with providers to obtain missing information or updated documentation in a timely manner.
  • Prepare credentialing files for review by the Credentialing Committee or others such as delegated entities.
  • Assists with conducting audits and quality checks to ensure data accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintains confidentiality of provider information.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Recruitment, Enrollment, Cross-Licensing and Compliance.
  • Respond to inquiries from providers and internal departments regarding credentialing status.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in healthcare administration, business or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years experience in credentialing, preferably for behavioral health providers with multiple licenses in multiple states.
  • Strong knowledge of credentialing standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to handle sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving, analysis and resolution.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships between providers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently while maintaining accuracy.
  • Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment.
