Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the Company's accounting function and support the continued growth of our clean energy platform. Reporting to the SVP, Corporate Finance, the Controller will oversee corporate and project accounting, financial reporting, month-end close, internal controls, and accounting operations across a growing portfolio of renewable energy assets.

The Controller will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, supporting project development and financing activities, and building scalable accounting processes to support the Company's growth. This individual will partner closely with Project Finance, FP&A, Tax & Treasury, Project Development, Engineering & Construction, Asset Operations, Legal, and external stakeholders while leading and developing a high-performing accounting team.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader with strong technical expertise, experience managing complex project-based accounting environments, and a passion for building processes, systems, and teams in a fast-growing organization.

Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting

  • Lead all aspects of corporate and project accounting, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and continuously improve close efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and other applicable accounting standards.
  • Lead preparation and review financial statements and supporting analyses for management, lenders, investors, and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.

Technical Accounting, Controls & Audit

  • Maintain accounting policies and procedures across all legal entities.
  • Evaluate and document accounting treatment for complex transactions, including project acquisitions, asset transfers, debt arrangements, and other strategic transactions.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls and accounting processes.
  • Coordinate annual financial statement audits and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
  • Support tax compliance and reporting activities in partnership with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
  • Monitor developments in accounting standards and regulatory requirements and assess their impact on the business.

Project Accounting & Business Partnership

  • Oversee accounting for a growing portfolio of development, construction, and operating assets.
  • Maintain capitalization policies to ensure accurate accounting for project costs, construction work in progress, fixed assets, and asset capitalization.
  • Partner with Development, Construction, Asset Management, and Finance teams to support project execution and financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with Tax & Treasury and FP&A teams to ensure accurate accounting and reporting for debt facilities, tax equity structures, and other financing-related activities.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals across corporate and project accounting functions.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and support ongoing professional development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Help build the accounting organization, processes, and capabilities required to support the Company's continued growth.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Drive automation, standardization, and process improvements across accounting operations.
  • Partner with Finance leadership to improve reporting capabilities, workflows, and financial systems.
  • Support ERP enhancements and other technology initiatives that improve efficiency, controls, and scalability.

Required education and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership and people management responsibilities.
  • Experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, power, utilities, construction, real estate, or other project-based industries.
  • Experience with project accounting, construction accounting, project and tax equity financing, and multi-entity organizational structures.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience managing month-end close, audits, and accounting operations within a growing organization.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle Netsuite, etc…) and accounting process automation initiatives.
