Responsibilities
MaxLinear is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Applications Software Engineer. The candidate filling this position will need to be an experienced engineer with extensive knowledge of firmware development for embedded systems, networking L2/L3 protocols knowledge and Linux embedded system BSP know-how in terms of networking and Ethernet. In this role, you will use your technical expertise, interpersonal and communication skills, and work on a deep technical level. You will also interact with FAE, customers and R&D while focusing on the following:
- Understanding of Networking L2/3/4 protocol or maintenance experience based on embedded system SoC platform with stand-alone switch integrated
- Familiar with Linux and RTOS system integration, porting, software package usage
- Able to perform software package customizations and modify BSP to fulfill the target system spec requirement
- Able to develop test cases and plan for board or system test validation
- Analysis and debugging of technical or customer issues in close alignment with the worldwide expert team
- Generate and review product collateral, software support package, customer support documents and tool usage guide
- Work with the Engineering teams to improve product reliability, quality, and product experience
- Provide product and technical training for FAE teams
- Willingness to travel abroad when required
Qualifications
- Experience in software/firmware development preferably in the embedded product space with knowledge of SW from OS/RTOS to applications
- Know-how of broadband communication & networking system software development
- Experience and proven track record to develop switch application, driver or API function modification
- Familiarity with
- Linux and embedded system operation including:
- Linux Device Tree configuration and customization
- GPIO setup, control and driver integration
- Memory bring-up, initialization and tuning
- Peripheral driver porting on high-speed I/O interfaces (e.g., PCIe, USB, Ethernet SerDes)
- RTOS operation experience
- C/C++ language (must), Python (preferred)
- Industry standard lab instruments including protocol and Network traffic analyzer
- Linux and embedded system operation including:
- Knowledge of hardware circuits and components is a plus, particularly when collaborating with board design and hardware teams.
- Knowledge of 5G infrastructure, Backhaul, AP Wi-Fi router and PON is an asset
- Knowledge of RF/Microwave Mixed-Signal and digital communications concepts (50 MHz to 50 GHz) is a plus
- Experienced in Telecom wireless access/base station (4G LTE / 5G) RF / system design and debug is a plus
- Strong low level and system level problem-solving skills with the ability to work well and learn quickly under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within a globally distributed team
- Self-motivated with a great sense of responsibility, managing both technical and business challenges
- Assertive, customer focus, persistent, and ambitious to achieve targets
- Good performer to achieve/ manage top outcomes within best time
- Ability to understand complex technical problems
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Education & Years of Experience:
- BS in Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineering or related + 10 years of experience, or MS + 8 years of experience
