About the Role, Accountabilities & Outcomes

As a Senior Economist, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality economic research, forecasting and analysis focused on the Australian residential property market, strengthening Domain and CoStar Group Australia’s position as a trusted and authoritative voice.

Working within the Analytics & Insights function, you will contribute to Economic Research and Thought Leadership, with insights that inform Domain’s Residential strategy.

  • Develop and maintain forecasting models and residential housing market indicators, including nowcasting and forward-looking metrics.

  • Undertake in-depth analysis of economic, statistical and demographic data across Australian residential property markets.

  • Conduct policy-focused research, assessing the impact of government, central bank and regulatory changes on housing markets.

  • Translate complex analysis into clear, concise and compelling narratives for internal stakeholders, media and industry audiences.

  • Construct and manage economic datasets, ensuring accuracy, consistency and timely delivery of insights.

  • Produce high-quality reports, briefings and commentary on key economic releases (including RBA, ABS and government announcements) and residential market trends.

  • Contribute to Domain’s public-facing research and thought leadership, including engaging with media across emerging and growth markets and representing Domain at events and conferences (including travel and occasional out-of-hours activity).

  • Collaborate with Analytics, Content, PR and Product teams to ensure insights are aligned and effectively delivered.

  • Maintain strong awareness of macroeconomic conditions and emerging trends, identifying implications for the residential property market.

  • Ensure all outputs meet high standards of accuracy, integrity and methodological rigour.

  • Continuously improve research methodologies and workflows, leveraging new tools and technologies to enhance efficiency and impact.

Our Ideal Person

Essentials

Experience: Proven experience in economics, econometrics or quantitative analysis, with a strong track record in economic modelling, forecasting and research.

Residential Property Expertise: Demonstrated experience in residential property or housing market research.

Demonstrated Analytical Thinking: Advanced analytical capability, with experience interpreting economic, statistical and demographic data to generate clear and robust insights.

Communication and Influence: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, accessible and engaging narratives.

Technical Capability: Experience working with economic data frameworks (including ABS, national accounts and CPI) and applying quantitative methods.

Collaboration: Experience working within research or analytics teams and contributing to shared outcomes.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics or a related field (Masters or first-class honours preferred).

Preferred

Experience developing and maintaining forecasting models and economic indicators.

Familiarity with Australian housing market dynamics and policy environment.

Experience contributing to published research, reports or commentary.

Experience using tools such as Tableau, Python, R or similar analytical platforms.
