The Role

We are looking for a highly analytical and driven Manufacturing Quality Engineer to support both our Hardware Manufacturing and R&D teams. In this role, you will be the central hub for all manufacturing quality data from our suppliers and Contract Manufacturers (CMs) across all product lines.

This is an excellent step up for an experienced associate-level engineer looking to take on more ownership. You will not only analyze and visualize critical yield and defect data but also get hands-on with part inspection, SOP reviews, and driving root-cause investigations. At Matterport, you will be supported by seasoned engineers, with ample opportunities for close mentorship, continuous learning, and upskilling.

This position is located in Sunnyvale, CA and is in office Monday through Thursday and work from home on Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis & Visualization: Handle, query, and analyze complex manufacturing quality data from suppliers and CMs using SQL data analytics tools.

  • Statistical Process Control: Apply statistical tools and techniques, including Minitab, SPC, and Cpk analysis, to monitor and control manufacturing processes.

  • Performance Tracking: Build, maintain, and present intuitive dashboards with actionable insights aimed at improving First Pass Yield (FPY) rates and reducing defect rates.

  • Root Cause & Corrective Action: Drive and own 8D investigations to resolve quality issues, utilizing root cause analysis methodologies.

  • Hands-on Quality Assurance: Perform physical inspections of parts and assemblies to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.

  • Process Improvement: Review, refine, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the manufacturing line.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary quality liaison, interfacing directly with suppliers, CMs, Manufacturing Engineers, Design Engineers, and Production Line Engineers to ensure quality standards are met from R&D through mass production.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited, not for profit, in person university or college.

  • A track record of commitment to prior employers

  • 3+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in querying data using SQL.

  • Experience building data dashboards (Looker, PowerBI, ReDash, or similar).

  • Strong working knowledge of statistical analysis tools (Minitab, JMP) and techniques (SPC, Cpk).

  • Strong working knowledge of QMS standards such as ISO 9001, aerospace standards (AS9100), or automotive standards (IATF 16949), including hands-on experience with APQP and PPAP frameworks.

  • Proven experience driving 8D investigations and leading cross-functional teams to effective corrective actions.

  • Hands-on experience inspecting mechanical/electrical parts and assemblies, as well as reviewing and writing SOPs.

  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to translate raw data into actionable manufacturing strategies.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.

  • Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g., Arena, Agile).

  • Experience with FMEA and Control Plans.
