OPEN POSITIONName of Employer: LanzaTech, Inc.Position Title: ScientistJob Location: 8045 Lamon Avenue, Suite 400, Skokie, IL 60077Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Summary of Duties:- Independently design, plan and analyze experiments and complete project subtasks from start to finish.- Develop timeline and resource requirements for experiments.- Develop new ideas and concepts through collaboration with others and study of relevant literature.- Assist in devising experimental plans that best support fermentation modelling efforts.- Convert experimental data to ‘best-fit’ mathematical models.- Communicate experimental plans and results through regular updates and presentations.- Participate in meetings to discuss obtained data.- Review relevant literature including the latest publications on the subject.- Prepare and setup bench-top bioreactors and cultivate microorganisms under anaerobic conditions.- Update and maintain the fermentation data collection file, ensuring data quality and integrity.- Follow the fermentation course closely by regular sample taking and ensure metabolite composition (HPLC) and gas composition (GC) are integrated in the data collection file.- Take regular OD and Flow Cytometry measurements to assess live/dead ratio of experimental cultures.- Prepare media according to current recipes for bacterial cultivation and maintain a record of the media batch preparation and swap over.- Contribute to team/project meetings with ideas and suggestions and curiosity to keep up with developments.- Assist in upgrading data capturing methods and files.- Maintain laboratory books and records to the level required by LanzaTech’s patent attorney. Report new IP to group leader and in-house patent attorney.- Contribute to and adhere to all safety standards and practices.- Identify and address areas for improvement.- Write timely reports, SOPs, patents, grant applications and publications. Qualifications:Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biological Engineering, or a related field of study AND two (2) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation in which the required experience was gained. In lieu of a Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biological Engineering, or a related field of study AND two (2) years of experience, the employer will also accept a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biological Engineering, or a related field of study AND five (5) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation in which the required experience was gained. Must also have demonstrated experience with: Gas fermentation in CSTR, laboratory safety standards and practices, Python, PowerBI, MATLAB, Jupyter Hub, Flow Cytometry, Microsoft Office Suite, and scale-up commercial gas fermentation operations concepts.
