What is special about this role?
The Associate Director, Corporate Controller will be a leader within the accounting function at Helix. This role is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the integrity of our financial records, and making the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate. This includes managing the monthly close process, customer invoicing, collections, accounts payable, and payroll.
As a Corporate Controller, you will:
Leadership & Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Partner with HR, Legal, and other departments to ensure business processes align with evolving accounting and regulatory requirements.

Accounting Operations & Financial Integrity

  • Oversee the monthly and quarterly close processes, continuously reviewing and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure all financial statements and records conform to professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Manage the full end-to-end payroll processing cycle and related compliance, ensuring timely and accurate compensation, tax filings, and reporting.
  • Manage daily accounting operations, including customer invoicing, collections, and accounts payable.
  • Review and maintain appropriate internal controls, financial procedures, and documentation across all accounting cycles.

Reporting, Audit, and Compliance

  • Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, managing the preparation and support for all external audits.
  • Partner with FP&A in the preparation and communication of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting data.
  • Manage weekly cash-flow and treasury operations, including check signing, and wire/ACH authorizations.
  • Support the preparation and timely filing of all local, state, and federal tax returns.
  • Assist in the evaluation of insurance renewals and advise on their financial impact.

Strategy & Systems

  • Provide analysis to support management on the accounting and tax implications for strategic business decisions.
  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new financial systems and software to provide critical operational and financial information.
About you:
  • Bachelor's and/or master’s degree with an emphasis in accounting.
  • 5 – 7+ years of progressive experience in the accounting and finance sector, including experience managing accountants and the accounting process.
  • A minimum of 3 years in a direct people management role, responsible for performance, coaching, and development of accounting staff.
  • Experience working in biotech, healthcare, or life sciences industry.
  • Experience in both the private and public accounting sectors is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Organized with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Pluses:
  • C.P.A. is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with a cloud-based ERP (e.g., NetSuite).
  • Strong knowledge of Google Suite (Sheets, Slides, Docs).
  • Experience with procurement management and expense reporting cloud software.
  • Familiarity with revenue cycle management.

Expected Pay For This Role:
There are 3 distinct parts to your Helix offer: 1) Base Salary 2) Annual Bonus 3) Equity
  • Expected Helix Base: $145,000 - $191,500
  • Expected Helix Discretionary Annual Bonus: 15% of your annual salary
  • Equity: We offer generous equity at Helix. If you receive a Helix offer your recruiter will book dedicated time with you to educate you on our equity model.

What To Expect During Your First 90 days:

  • Day 30 - 60: you’ll spend time contributing to projects, deeply familiarizing yourself with team and company processes, and developing a deeper understanding of Helix’s products, services and capabilities.
  • Day 60 - 90: you’ll build your OKRs with your manager, start to take ownership of projects and initiatives on your team, and begin to demonstrate your impact on the Helix mission.

Compensation

The base pay range for this role is $145,000 – $191,500 per year.
