  • Competitive Compensation: A strong base salary plus an annual performance bonus.
    • Salary Range: $117,000 - $170,000 MXN/ monthly

  • Hybrid & Remote Flexibility:
    • Hybrid: Our office is located at WeWork - Varsovia, Mexico City. We gather intentionally in our office space once per week to work on things like pair programming/live collaboration, skillshare sessions, social segments, team lunches, and volunteering opportunities. Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, CDMX.
    • Remote (for team members living 80 km or more outside Mexico City): We'll invite you to our CDMX office 3-6 times a year for key training and team meetings. These visits are a great chance to connect in person and strengthen our Helix community. Helix cover travel and accommodation
  • Allowances & Stipends:
    • Home Office Stipend: we will reimburse up to $500 USD for essential workspace items, so you are fully equipped to perform your best.
    • Phone Allowance: 700 MXN monthly.

Your Impact in this Role

This team is responsible for the software platform and user experiences that supports our Participants, Providers, and Research Administrators throughout their genetics journey. We guide users from initial enrollment in our research program, through sample processing in our lab, to the return of their results and shape comprehension of their genetic outcomes. Our team works closely with Design, User Experience, Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, Data Engineering, and Solutions teams to build and maintain the software and infrastructure necessary to provide an industry-leading experience.

As a Staff Software Engineer you will:

  • Guide strategic technical planning across all teams in the Experience Org
  • Design, architect, and implement software systems for our genomic applications and services, with a focus on the patient and provider experience.
  • Collaborate and work cross functionally with product managers, designers, user experience researchers, scientists, and our business leaders to drive meaningful outcomes to the business.
  • Lead frontend architecture and development strategy for the Experience Organization
  • Help develop cross-training programs supporting backend engineers transitioning to full stack
  • Shape how we utilize AI, establish AI development best practices, and drive adoption within the organization.
  • Serve as a dedicated technical mentor for the Experience Department helping grow our next generation of technical leaders
  • Own complex multi-faceted software systems and infrastructure from conception through development to production.

About you:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, or 8+ years of equivalent professional experience as a Software Engineer.
  • Proficiency with distributed systems built on cloud infrastructure — AWS, GCP, Azure or similar
  • Full stack engineering expertise with strong frontend capabilities, proficient in Javascript/Typescript and an established back-end language (Go, Java, Python, Scala, Rust, etc)
  • Familiarity and experience developing and maintaining SPA’s on frameworks such as React, Next.js, Vue.js or similar.
  • Expert at architecting large, complex, high-scale and durable software.
  • Proven experience in solving complex architectural problems
  • Possess a strong product engineering mindset
  • Experience implementing and passion for driving AI adoption in engineering workflows
  • Thought leader with a successful track record mentoring other engineers
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling/frameworks (e.g., Terraform, Cloudformation, AWS CDK)
  • Familiarity with database design, data manipulation, and data quality techniques
  • Adaptable in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities may change quickly and frequently
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new domains (e.g. genomics, healthcare) and associated technologies
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
Pluses:
  • Familiarity with regulated software systems in any industry (e.g., HIPAA, ISO, FDA)
  • Familiarity and experience developing and architecting event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with AWS technologies and serverless infrastructure
  • Experience with machine learning or AI technologies, including LLMs.
  • Experience in the life sciences/pharmaceutical industry
Physical/Mental Demands: This role requires prolonged periods of sitting while being able to view and read text on computer screens less than a few feet away. May periodically require lifting up to 10 pounds and occasional walking or standing. May require repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands, or fingers. May require meetings in person or via video conference (on or off-camera). Requires work in a typical office setting or may be eligible for remote work. Role also requires the ability to reason logically and make sound decisions; ability to understand, remember, and follow verbal and written instructions; and ability to perform in situations requiring deadlines. Ability to work as an integral part of a team.
