What is special about this role?
As a Senior Software Engineer II, Data at Helix, you will provide your data and analytics engineering expertise to Analysts and Engineers across Helix. You'll build data products, platforms for interacting with data, and set patterns that leverage industry best practices. Your influence will span across the organization as you collaborate with stakeholders to deliver high-impact solutions that drive strategic decision-making.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will:
  • Lead the design of reusable data models that drive critical business operations, following industry best practices
  • Recognize patterns that don't serve long-term goals and implement effective solutions
  • Drive optimization of data pipelines and data models to enhance performance, reliability, and usability
  • Establish and champion high standards for testing, documentation, and data quality
  • Mentor engineers and analysts on data best practices
About you:
  • 5+ years of experience in data, software, or analytics engineering roles
  • 4+ years writing advanced SQL and extensive dbt experience
  • 2+ years building on existing models, helping them scale as new business requirements are introduced
  • Expertise in dimensional modeling and other advanced data modeling methodologies
  • Expertise in optimizing performance in cloud data platforms such as Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake
  • Experience designing data architectures that span multiple business domains
  • Experience working with data catalogs and/or metadata platforms that support data discovery, classification, etc.
  • Proficiency with Python, Golang, or TypeScript for developing robust data tools and services
  • Experience working with BI tools like Tableau, ThoughtSpot, or similar
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to translate between technical and business contexts
Pluses:
  • Experience working in a regulated environment (healthcare, financial data, etc.)
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as Code principles and microservices architectures
  • Experience designing and building microservices
  • Advanced knowledge of orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Dagster, etc.) and optimization techniques
  • Experience implementing data governance controls (access management, privacy compliance, etc.)
  • Track record of improving development workflows and CI/CD processes for data and analytics teams
  • Experience with data architectures that support domain-oriented data ownership

Expected Pay For This Role:
There are 2 distinct parts to your Helix offer: 1) Base Salary 2) Annual Bonus
Expected Helix Annual Base: $1,284,000 - $1,744,500 MXN
Expected Helix Discretionary Annual Bonus: 5% of your annual salary
The salary range above is our reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role across your region. Actual starting pay will be based on non-discriminatory job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. We gather intentionally in our office space once per week to work on things like pair programming/live collaboration, skill share sessions, social segments, team lunches, and volunteering opportunities. For Mexican employees who reside outside of CDMX you will not be required to visit once per week.
What To Expect During Your Onboarding Week:
We want to make sure your first week is spent learning the foundations. You will be invited to live orientation sessions and spend time with your hiring manager developing your individual roadmap to success. This experience will include sessions that cover your benefits, security & privacy training, an introduction to the OKR framework used at Helix and our communication tools and norms.
What To Expect During Your First 90 days:
  • First 30 days: you’ll spend time learning the Helix way, completing training and onboarding for your roles, and getting introduced to your team and relevant stakeholders. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of our customers, our products, the impact we make in the lives of our communities, and how to thrive at Helix through participation in Helix U.
  • Day 30 - 60: you’ll spend time contributing to projects, deeply familiarizing yourself with team and company processes, and developing a deeper understanding of Helix’s products, services and capabilities.
  • Day 60 - 90: you’ll build your OKRs with your manager, start to take ownership of projects and initiatives on your team, and begin to demonstrate your impact on the Helix mission.
