What is special about this role?

The Helix Population Health Platform team is essential in managing the patient experience; from the enrollment and consent process of new users, including the progression of their genetic sample, to the return of results and how they comprehend their genetic outcomes. Our team collaborates closely with various cross-functional teams, including Design, Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, and Data Engineering, to maintain the software and infrastructure necessary to provide a best-in-class patient experience.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:

  • Design, architect, and implement software systems for our genomic applications and services, with a focus on the patient experience.
  • Be responsible for code that spans multiple domains across frontend, backend, devops (infra), and testing.
  • Deploy and operate software with reliability and scale for our users and health systems. Collaborate with product managers, bioinformaticians, scientists, and other engineers.
  • Own deliverables from ideas to feature completion and production deployment
  • Improve and adopt exceptional engineering practices for the organization.
  • Mentor other engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning and education.

About you:

  • 7+ years development experience in Go, Python, Typescript, Javascript, Java, or similar
  • Proficiency with distributed systems built on cloud infrastructure — AWS, GCP, Azure or similar
  • Experience architecting large, high-scale durable back-end or front-end systems
  • Thought leadership and a successful track record mentoring other engineers
  • Affinity for an engineering culture that emphasizes Agile, DevOps, and continuous delivery
  • Proven track record of successful project deliveries
  • Willing to work onsite in Mexico City for at least one day each week
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken

Pluses:

  • Bachelor/Master of Science in Computer Science
  • Familiarity with regulated software systems (e.g., HIPAA, ISO, FDA)
  • Familiarity and experience developing and maintaining SPA’s on frameworks such as React, Next.js, Vue.js or similar.
  • Familiarity and experience developing and architecting event-driven architectures.

Expected Pay For This Role:
There are 2 distinct parts to your Helix offer: 1) Base Salary 2) Annual Bonus
Expected Helix Annual Base: - MXN 1,073,000- $1,414,250 (Gross)
Expected Helix Discretionary Annual Bonus: 10% of your annual salary
The salary range above is our reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role across your region. Actual starting pay will be based on non-discriminatory job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Office Location:

Our office is located at the WeWork - Varsovia, Mexico City

  • We gather intentionally in our office space once per week to work on things like pair programming/live collaboration, skillshare sessions, social segments, team lunches, and volunteering opportunities.

What To Expect During Your Onboarding Week:

We want to make sure your first week is spent learning the foundations. You will be invited to live orientation sessions and spend time with your hiring manager developing your individual roadmap to success. This experience will include sessions that cover your benefits, security & privacy training, an introduction to the OKR framework used at Helix and our communication tools and norms.

What To Expect During Your First 90 days:

  • First 30 days: you’ll spend time learning the Helix way, completing training and onboarding for your roles, and getting introduced to your team and relevant stakeholders. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of our customers, our products, the impact we make in the lives of our communities, and how to thrive at Helix through participation in Helix U.

  • Day 30 - 60: you’ll spend time contributing to projects, deeply familiarizing yourself with team and company processes, and developing a deeper understanding of Helix’s products, services and capabilities.

  • Day 60 - 90: you’ll build your OKRs with your manager, start to take ownership of projects and initiatives on your team, and begin to demonstrate your impact on the Helix mission.
