Meet Upside:
We created Upside to transform brick-and-mortar commerce. Our technology uses the sophistication of online retail—profit measurement, attribution, and incrementality—to provide users with more value on their everyday purchases and brick-and-mortar businesses with new, profitable customers. We’ve helped millions of users earn 2 to 3 times more cashback than any other product, and hundreds of thousands of brick-and-mortar businesses earn measurable profit. Billions of dollars in commerce run through the Upside platform every year, and that value goes directly back to our retailer partners, the consumers they serve, and important sustainability initiatives.
The Impact You’ll Make
We’re hiring a Principal Analyst, Marketing Measurement & Effectiveness to own the end to end methodologies and models that define how we measure and optimize marketing performance across the full user funnel at Upside.
In this high-impact role, you’ll translate complex analytical findings into clear, compelling narratives that drive decision-making at the highest levels. You’ll partner closely with Consumer Marketing, Finance, Product, and Engineering to design and operationalize a best-in-class marketing measurement framework that guides acquisition, retention, and customer lifetime value strategy.
Your ability to connect the dots across data, business context, and storytelling, combined with a growth mindset and willingness to experiment with new techniques, will ensure our measurement practice remains at the forefront of a rapidly evolving marketing landscape.
Lead Marketing Measurement Methodology: Architect and own our marketing measurement stack, including multi-touch attribution, media mix modeling (MMM), Bayesian approaches to incrementality testing (geo holdouts, lift studies), and attribution modeling.
Turn Analysis Into Influence: Distill complex models into executive-ready presentations with a clear point of view, well-structured narrative, and actionable recommendations.
Experimentation & Causal Inference: Partner with marketing teams to design and run statistically rigorous experiments, ensuring minimum detectable effect thresholds and robust test design.
Retention & LTV Analytics: Build cohorting and churn risk models that inform CRM strategy and help maximize long-term value from our customer base.
Privacy-Resilient Measurement: Adapt frameworks for a privacy-first world, incorporating probabilistic attribution and server-side measurement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Engineering, Data, and MarTech teams to ensure clean, reliable, and real-time data flows for all marketing and measurement needs.
Team Development and Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior data analysts to build team capabilities and foster a culture of analytical rigor and best practices in marketing measurement.
Competencies You’ll Need:
8+ years in marketing analytics, measurement, or effectiveness roles, with proven expertise in MMM, attribution, incrementality, time-series forecasting and causal inference
Deep understanding of mobile app marketing and privacy regulations with proven ability of designing measurement approaches that remain resilient amid data signal loss (e.g., ATT, cookie deprecation).
Expert communicator with an ability to simplify complex findings for diverse audiences, from technical peers to executives, through both oral delivery and compelling written narratives
Critical thinker that can evaluate multiple solutions, foresee implications, and connect disparate data points into a cohesive recommendation
Meticulous attention to detail — ensures modeling accuracy, data integrity, and presentation quality in every deliverable
Growth mindset — embraces new ideas, adapts to changing technology and privacy environments, and actively seeks opportunities to learn and improve
Strong statistical modeling skills in Python or R
Experience partnering across Growth, Brand, Finance, Product, and Engineering
Familiarity with data visualization (Looker, Hex) and expert knowledge in SQL
Tools We Use
SQL (Snowflake)
Visualization and Notebooking (Hex and Looker)
Data building and orchestration (DBT and Dagster)
MarTech tools (AppsFlyer, Iterable, Segment)
