About Doctours
Today, 100M Americans are forced to pick between forgoing the medical care that they need and taking on medical debt. At Doctours, we provide a third option: medical tourism. Our platform connects Americans with vetted and verified healthcare providers worldwide. We started with the hair, beard, and eyebrow transplant market but are hiring you to expand into fertility treatments, dental, orthopedics, and oncology. We’re a small startup with a mission to create a world where anyone, anywhere can access the best care without the barriers of cost or location.
Description of the Role
You are not being hired to do support work. You are being hired to eliminate it. At Doctours, most patient conversations are already handled by AI systems we built internally. The loop: a conversation reaches a point where the current AI fails, you take over to handle the patient's immediate needs, you figure out why the system failed, you write code to fix it, and you repeat. Over time, the work gets less repetitive, not more.
-
Own features end to end — read unfamiliar codebases, ship to production, and be on the hook when it breaks
-
Build AI systems: agents, tool integrations, evals, retrieval — the majority of what you ship
-
Handle patient conversations when AI systems hit their limits — triage, answer, reassure
-
Diagnose AI system failures and build permanent fixes
-
Build infrastructure that scales patient coordination without scaling headcount
-
Begin automation of the clinic-side of the business
Skills
-
Strong programming ability in Python and/or JavaScript
-
Comfort working with APIs and integrations
-
Understanding of AI/LLM concepts — how models work, where they fail, how to evaluate and improve them
-
Version control with git
-
Ability to own features end to end without supervision
-
Good with people — can make patients feel understood, not processed
-
AI/LLM systems (prompting, agents, retrieval, evaluation)
-
Debugging and root cause analysis
-
Experience building applications with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) is a plus
-
Prompt engineering and agent development at scale is a plus
-
Past customer-facing work experience — front desk, server, retail, or any role helping people directly is a plus
-
Healthcare or regulated-industry experience is a plus
-
Prior startup experience is a plus
Characteristics
-
Hard grinder — you work with intensity and take pride in outworking the problem
-
Addicted to the dopamine of finishing tasks — you ship, you don't just plan
-
You thrive in intense startup environments and find energy in the pace, not stress
-
You want to be an entrepreneur one day, so you want to learn from the best today
-
You want to build a network — you'll meet early engineers, investors, and operators up close
-
Empathetic — you genuinely care about making patients feel understood, not processed
-
Allergic to repetitive work — you'd rather remove a problem permanently than get good at handling it manually
-
You automate things for fun
-
Independent problem solver who can own features without supervision
