Who You’ll Work With

The WW Cisco Spaces Specialist team is looking for a senior, highly motivated Solutions Engineer (SE) with strong business and technical acuity, excellent communication skills, and a passion for bringing value to our customers, partners and account teams through digital transformation.

In this role, you will be part of the wider Networking Incubation Sales team and will be responsible for technical sales to meet and exceed assigned quota. You will plan sales strategies in collaboration with Account Executies, drive technical proof of value tests (POV), build solution designs, deliver customer presentations, and close opportunities.

You must be able to contribute to an encouraging and empowering team culture.


What You’ll Do

You will work within the Networking Incubation organization as a Solutions Engineer, and act as a subject matter expert on Cisco Spaces. In this role, you will be responsible for developing a business plan to meet and exceed assigned quota. You will have visibility and impact on multiple business units within Cisco, our customers across various segments, and strategic partners, to drive the transformation of buildings into smart spaces.


Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Having deep understanding of product capabilities and value proposition as well as smart building/real estate trends and be able to present, pitch and demo to customers using outcomes based selling methodologies - at LOB, IT management and executive levels
  • Performing product demonstrations and run Proof of Values/Concepts (POV/POC), from initial scoping to technical win. Contribute to continuous improvement for effective POVs with defined success metrics that facilitates the technical deal closure
  • Lead in technically understanding new Spaces capabilities and assist in enabling the account executive team to expand their sales portfolio and scale through the organization
  • Contribute to and implement creative and innovative sales plans with account and specialist teams
  • Building customer relationships with lines of business (LOB) and technical decision makers
  • Pursue and win major, strategic, high touch and sophisticated opportunities. Take ownership and accountability for driving the Spaces revenue to technical close
  • Partner with a wide variety of stakeholders to be able to use the full extent of Cisco resources to scale
  • Leverage Cisco Spaces as a differentiator to grow Cisco Networking and Collaboration market share
  • Work with the engineering team to develop standard processes and craft value propositions across Cisco Networking and Collaboration architectures
  • Advocate and evangelize Cisco Spaces through blogs, social networks and public speaking at industry events

Who You Are

The Cisco Spaces Solution Engineer is a highly dynamic, growth-focused self-starter and will take ownership of objectives and results and operate without a need for detailed management. They will have a naturally competitive spirit and desire to win, while having uncompromising ethical standards. Internal and external influence skills are a must. Understanding of sales tools, analytics, reporting and a digital mentality are critical for success.

Minimum Skills and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of proven experience in the networking industry
  • Strong Industry knowledge in topics like real estate, smart buildings, IOT, sustainability, hybrid work and location-based services
  • Very good understanding of relevant markets, trends and technologies, including but not limited to Wi-Fi, BLE, Switching, APIs, and cloud-managed networks
  • Technical knowledge and ideally experience in selling Cisco products and technologies in above areas including Meraki MV/MT
  • Ability to translate business problems to technical solution offerings and outcomes
  • Shown field sales experience: understanding of sophisticated sales cycles with a strong ability to accelerate sales and navigate roadblocks
  • Strong ability to work in matrix organizations/teams and lead stakeholder relationships - to identify and establish partnerships with stakeholders to build support, secure sponsorship and ensure alignment for desired outcomes
  • Shown ability to communicate optimally and expertly with customers, colleagues and collaborate with a variety of organizations
  • Ability to think ‘big’ and tackle problems creatively and independently with a simplicity-first attitude

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Relevant Cisco and non-Cisco certifications
  • High proficiency in the English language. French or German are a plus

For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings.

Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday (for non-exempt employees), plus a day off for their birthday. Non-Exempt new hires accrue up to 16 days of vacation time off each year, at a rate of 4.92 hours per pay period. Exempt new hires participate in Cisco’s flexible Vacation Time Off policy, which does not place a defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use, but is subject to availability and some business limitations. All new hires are eligible for Sick Time Off subject to Cisco’s Sick Time Off Policy and will have eighty (80) hours of sick time off provided on their hire date and on January 1st of each year thereafter. Up to 80 hours of unused sick time will be carried forward from one calendar year to the next such that the maximum number of sick time hours an employee may have available is 160 hours. Employees in Illinois have a unique time off program designed specifically with local requirements in mind. All employees also have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
