Program Manager, Engineering

About The Role

We are looking for a Program Manager to lead execution of our engineering programs. You will work closely with design, test, validation, and operations engineers to turn engineering goals into clear plans, keep programs on schedule, and make sure everyone knows what is happening, what is at risk, and what comes next. Strong communication and teamwork are at the heart of this role. The right person builds trust across teams, runs focused and productive meetings, writes clearly, and keeps people aligned without adding unnecessary process. You will rely on MS Project, Confluence, and Jira every day to plan, document, and track work. This is a fully on-site role, working side by side with our engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end planning and execution of cross-functional engineering programs, including scope, schedule, milestones, dependencies, and resources.
  • Build and maintain integrated program schedules in MS Project, including critical path, baselines, and what-if analysis.
  • Set up and manage Jira projects, boards, and workflows; track engineering tasks, issues, and action items through to closure.
  • Create and maintain program pages in Confluence: plans, requirements, meeting notes, decision logs, and status reports, so information is easy to find for the whole team.
  • Run regular core team meetings and program reviews with clear agendas, documented decisions, and assigned owners.
  • Act as the main point of contact between engineering teams, making sure handoffs are smooth and everyone understands priorities and dependencies.
  • Communicate program status, risks, and key decisions to engineers and engineering managers in a clear, concise way.
  • Prepare and present regular reports and dashboards for the executive team covering progress, schedule, budget, risks, and decisions needed.
  • Identify, track, and mitigate technical, schedule, and resource risks; escalate early with options and recommendations.
  • Help resolve conflicts and competing priorities between teams through open discussion and fact-based trade-offs.
  • Continuously improve engineering program processes, templates, and tool configurations.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or another engineering discipline, or a related technical field.
  • 4–7 years of program or project management experience, with at least 2 years managing engineering programs in a hardware, semiconductor, or high-tech environment.
  • Experience managing products through the full product life cycle, from concept and development through qualification and into volume production.
  • Strong hands-on experience with MS Project (detailed schedules, dependencies, critical path, baselines), Jira (projects, workflows, dashboards, reporting), and Confluence (team spaces, templates, program documentation).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical status clearly to both engineers and executives.
  • Proven ability to work well with and across engineering teams, building strong working relationships and leading without direct authority.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple priorities at once.

Preferred

  • Experience managing optoelectronics programs.
  • Working knowledge of FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and DOE (Design of Experiments) methodologies.
  • PMP, PgMP, or Agile/Scrum certification.
  • Experience working with external vendors, suppliers, or contract manufacturers.
  • Background in a startup or fast-growing engineering organization.

Key Competencies

  • Clear communicator: writes and speaks concisely and adapts the message to the audience.
  • Team player: builds trust, listens well, and creates a collaborative, respectful team environment.
  • Facilitator: runs effective meetings and drives teams to decisions.
  • Ownership: takes accountability for program outcomes, not just tracking tasks.
  • Technical fluency: engages credibly in engineering discussions and trade-offs.
  • Adaptability: replans quickly when results or priorities change.
