What You'll Do

As a Sr Tax Analyst – Managed Returns, you'll help customers navigate complex tax compliance requirements by providing timely, accurate guidance on Avalara's Managed Returns service. You'll own customer inquiries from start to finish, partnering across teams to resolve issues, reduce compliance risk, and deliver an outstanding customer experience.

You will be part of the Case Management team and reports to the Manager - Tax & Compliance.


What Your Responsibilities Will Be

  • You will oversee customer cases from initial inquiry through resolution, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete outcomes.
  • Provide clear guidance on the setup, maintenance, and ongoing use of Avalara's Managed Returns service.
  • Manage case priorities to meet service level agreements, minimize case aging, and reduce escalations.
  • Communicate with customers, other teams, and tax jurisdictions, including leading customer calls when needed.
  • Partner with teams to remove blockers and improve resolution times.
  • You will use AI tools to accelerate case research, summarize case history, draft communications, and improve workflow efficiency, validating all outputs for accuracy.
  • You will contribute to process improvements, documentation, and knowledge sharing that strengthen team performance and service quality.

What You'll Need to be Successful

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in case management, tax or compliance operations, or a customer-facing role managing complex inquiries.
  • Experience managing high-volume case queues while meeting service level agreements and deadlines.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including functions such as VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables, with the ability to work across multiple systems.
  • A collaborative, approach with a commitment to continuous improvement, including using AI responsibly to improve case quality, increase efficiency, share best practices, and enhance team performance.
