What You'll Do

You will facilitate core People Partner processes across Avalara's India operations. You will provide proactive, high-judgment support to People Partners and first-line managers, including employee lifecycle changes, policy application, data quality and reporting, and termination and offboarding processes.

As an HR People Partner career-level individual contributor, you are a HR professional with a full understanding of your area of specialization. You can resolve issues in creative, practical ways. What Your Responsibilities Will Be

Business partnering

  • Take lead and direction from the Senior People Partner to implement the people strategy for the business, translating high-level direction into clear plans and actions for your scope.
  • Provide daily guidance to first-line managers on people topics. These topics include department changes, employee relations, performance management, talent reviews, change programs, and more. Ensure that all actions conform to regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Challenge constructively and directly. Be respectful, fact-based, and willing to question the status quo. This approach roots itself in ownership and a genuine commitment to raising performance.
  • Partner with Centers of Excellence, such as Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, TM/LD, HR Services, and Legal, to resolve issues end-to-end.
  • Be a primary contact for people-related queries within your client groups, evaluation, resolving, or routing to People Partners.

HR proficiency and operational excellence

  • Lead and contribute to projects that promote People Partner goals and programs in India (e.g., performance management, position eliminations execution support, policy changes, or programs driven through ServiceNow ticketing and Workday).
  • Support implementation of people programs and policies through communications planning, project management, partner education, and high-quality documentation.
  • Maintain knowledge of India employment law and compliance requirements and apply them pragmatically in partnership with People Partners and Employee Relations.
  • Be an primary liaison with business/departments on ER matters (performance issues, accommodations, policy violations, job eliminations), escalating to Senior or Global People Partners and Legal.
  • Provide accurate and well-documented administrative and tactical support to People Partners (e.g., Workday changes, documentation, letters, audits, and employee records).

AI-first mindset and data

  • Connect structure, capability, performance, reward, and culture to design simple, scalable, AI-enabled solutions that improve outcomes at enterprise level
  • Use data (workforce, ticketing, ER trends, performance outcomes) to define problems, measure progress, and recommend trade-offs; treat anecdotes as context, not direction.
  • Use AI tools, such as Avi, Co-pilot, and ChatGPT, to automate repeatable work. Additionally, use HR systems like Workday, ServiceNow, and HRIS/ATS to enhance employee experience.

Storytelling, communication, and culture

  • Explain the “why”, trade-offs, and expected outcomes of people decisions, linking them to our goals and employee experience

What You'll Need to be Successful

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 4+ years of HR experience in a global organization
    • Master's degree in Human Resources
    • Experience supporting India-based employee populations and partnering with global stakeholders strongly preferred.
  • Technical skills:
    • Experience with HR systems (e.g., Workday, HRIS, ATS) and collaboration tools (Microsoft Office, Zoom, Slack).
    • Comfort using AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT, Avi) to drive efficiency, insight, and better employee/manager experiences.
  • Professional skills and traits:
    • Demonstrated urgency, ownership, curiosity, humility, and passion for building a high-performance, fair, and fun culture.
    • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and maintain strong documentation and audit-ready records.
