What You'll Do

Avalara is seeking a Sr. Manager, Marketing Operations to lead the strategy, execution, and optimization of our global email and lifecycle marketing programs. You will ensure scalable processes, high-performing automation, and data-driven decision-making across the marketing funnel.

In this role, you will bring strong expertise in Marketo, nurture program development, segmentation, and marketing operations best practices. You will collaborate closely with Marketing Analytics, Revenue Marketing, RevOps, and Sales to support campaign execution, improve funnel health, and enable teams with reliable data and efficient workflows.

You will report to the Director, Marketing Operations.


What Your Responsibilities Will Be

Marketing Automation & Nurture Strategy

  • Lead the strategy, buildout, and optimization of multichannel nurture programs, including persona-, product-, and intent-based journeys.
  • Develop scalable and repeatable Marketo programs, ensuring consistent architecture, QA, and performance.
  • Support segmentation and activation strategies using platforms like 6sense and G2, ensuring audiences align with demand goals.

Systems Operations & Process Optimization

  • Serve as the primary Marketo owner for the Lifecycle Marketing Operations team, including program governance, integrations, and performance hygiene.
  • Collaborate with RevOps and Marketing to help maintain accurate lead routing, scoring, and funnel transitions within Salesforce to ensure email and nurture programs trigger and execute correctly.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to increase marketing efficiency and scale.
  • Contribute to evaluation and operationalization of marketing technologies as part of the broader MarTech ecosystem.

Cross-Functional Enablement

  • Partner closely with Revenue Marketing, Revenue Operations, Digital, and Sales to support seamless campaign and nurture execution.
  • Ensure alignment on scoring, routing, MQL/SQL definitions, and lead management processes.
  • Create documentation, training, and best practices to enable teams and increase operational excellence.

Analytics & Performance Insights

  • Build KPIs and reporting workflows in partnership with Marketing Analytics to ensure visibility into funnel and campaign performance.
  • Analyze performance trends and provide strategic recommendations to improve conversion, engagement, and pipeline contribution.
  • Partner with Marketing Analytics to build and optimize a multi-touch email framework and measurement approach.

Strategic Leadership

  • Contribute to the marketing operations strategy by supporting data governance, automation standards, and scalable processes.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline MarTech workflows, improve data quality, and increase marketing impact across teams.
  • Advocate for data-driven decision-making and operational excellence across the marketing organization.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate system insights, program performance, and operational recommendations to marketing and sales stakeholders.
  • Support cross-functional planning for lifecycle programs, email campaigns, launches, and demand initiatives.

What You'll Need to be Successful

  • 6–8+ years of experience in B2B marketing operations, preferably in SaaS.
  • Hands-on expertise in Marketo, including program design, nurture architecture, scoring, routing, and integrations.
  • Experience with platforms such as 6sense for segmentation, intent data, and audience activation.
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce, including campaign management, reporting, and lead flow best practices.
  • Strong understanding of lead management, funnel analytics, measurement frameworks, and data governance.
  • Demonstrated experience building scalable MarTech-enabled processes and managing cross-functional workflows.
  • Familiarity with marketing analytics terms, goals, and data collection methods, including how marketing data is captured, tracked, and integrated across systems.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize effectively across multiple initiatives.
