What You'll Do

As a Data Scientist III, you will lead cross-functional data initiatives with strategic influence. You'll report to Data Scientist V.

This is a remote opportunity within Seattle commuting distance.

POSITION: Data Scientist III

WORK LOCATION: 906 Alaskan Way, Suite 500, Seattle, WA 98104 (Telecommuting permitted within commuting distance from Avalara Seattle office)


What Your Responsibilities Will Be

JOB DUTIES: Lead cross-functional data initiatives with strategic influence. Responsible for strategic data planning and cross-team collaboration. Act as a technical lead and mentor for junior DS staff. Drive data architecture and pipeline scalability decisions. Manage stakeholder alignment at an org-wide level (beyond direct team). Build Power BI dashboards and automating data workflows. Write SQL/Python for data analysis and reporting. Telecommuting permitted within commuting distance from Avalara Seattle office.


What You'll Need to be Successful

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Primary Requirements
• Master’s degree in Data Science, Analytics, Information systems, or related quantitative field
• 3 years of experience as a Data Scientist or similar role, including 3 years of experience in each of the following:
o Power BI
o Snowflake/SQL
o Predictive, prescriptive, and descriptive data modeling
o SDLC
o Agile
• Experience must also include the following:
o Python or R
o Automated data ingestion, storage, and transformation
o Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and macros; advanced formulas and functions including nested logic optimization and Array formulas/Dynamic Arrays; data modeling and analysis and data visualization; performance and optimization including debugging and error handling, and auditing.

Alternative Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Analytics, Information systems, or related quantitative field
• 5 years of progressive, post baccalaureate experience as a Data Scientist or similar role, including 5 years of experience in each of the following:
o Power BI
o Snowflake/SQL
o Predictive, prescriptive, and descriptive data modeling
o SDLC
o Agile
• Experience must also include the following:
o Python or R
o Automated data ingestion, storage, and transformation
o Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and macros; advanced formulas and functions including nested logic optimization and Array formulas/Dynamic Arrays; data modeling and analysis and data visualization; performance and optimization including debugging and error handling, and auditing.

All experience may be gained concurrently.

How We'll Take Care of You

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 40+ hours per week; $196,914 per year.

Base pay may be based on various factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance depending on the terms of the applicable plan and the employee’s role.
