What You'll Do

Avalara is at an exciting stage of growth — scaling globally, deepening customer trust, and strengthening how we connect and engage our teams worldwide. As our Senior Internal Communications Lead, you won't just share information — you'll shape the voice, rhythm, and influence of Avalara's internal communications. This is an Individual contributor role with no reporting under you. This role is based in Pune.

You will be reporting to the SVP, Customer Experience Operations, you'll partner with leaders across the business to create engaging, strategic communications that inform, inspire, and connect 700+ employees worldwide. You'll design messaging strategies that cut through the noise, strengthen Avalara's culture, and allow employees to understand and contribute to our transformation journey.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be

  • Design and deliver strategic communications plans aligned to Avalara's business priorities, culture, and brand voice.
  • Partner with senior leaders to create clear, engaging narratives that mobilize teams and promote Avalara's values.
  • Lead multi-channel campaigns (intranet, newsletters, live events, video, email, and SharePoint) that reach global audiences.
  • Create executive-level storytelling — helping leaders connect authentically with their teams through speeches, town halls, and leadership summits.
  • Build editorial calendars, standards, and templates that scale across the organization.
  • Coach and advise managers on practices to strengthen engagement.
  • Innovate with new formats, channels, and technologies (AI, video, digital platforms) to increase reach and influence.
  • Provide metrics, insights, and feedback loops to improve communication effectiveness.

What You'll Need to be Successful

  • 8+ years in communications, PR, or employee engagement (ideally in tech, SaaS, or global organizations).
  • Proficient in business English, with an ability to translate complex ideas into clear messaging for senior leaders and diverse global teams.
  • Proficient in storytelling, writing, and editing skills across formats and audiences.
  • Experience influencing and advising executives with confidence.
  • You are experienced in digital communication platforms (SharePoint, Microsoft Suite, intranet tools, video editing).
  • You have experience managing large-scale internal events and campaigns.
  • You have High EQ and relationship-building skills; able to connect across geographies, cultures, and levels.
  • A creative, innovative mindset with an eye for design and brand consistency.
  • Experience leading meetings and presenting work to the Director level and above, and display a high degree of confidentiality and ability to handle sensitive topics.
