As the Senior Manager, Data Platform for the Global Analytics & Insights organization at Avalara, you will lead the team responsible for building and scaling the foundational data platform that powers analytics, machine learning, and AI applications across the company. You will define and execute the vision for how we ingest, store, govern, and serve data at scale, with a focus on efficiency, reliability, and security. Using a modern data stack (Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Python), you'll ensure every data consumer within Avalara has the trusted data, tools, and access they need to succeed. You will report to the Senior Director, Data & Analytics Engineering.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be
You will lead and grow a high-performing team of data platform engineers, fostering technical excellence and professional growth
Own the platform: design, build, and operate core components including data lake/warehouse, ingestion frameworks, orchestration, metadata management, and observability
Partner with business and technology stakeholders to translate business priorities into technical roadmaps and execution
Drive data governance, privacy, and security, including role-based access, compliance, and monitoring
Evaluate and introduce emerging technologies that improve scalability, reliability, and developer experience
Lead with an “AI-first” mindset by embedding AI/ML capabilities into platform architecture, tooling, and operations
What You'll Need to be Successful
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or related field
Minimum of 8 years experience in data engineering, data infrastructure, or platform engineering, with deep expertise in modern data architectures
Minimum of 3 years people leadership experience, scaling and mentoring engineering teams
Technical knowledge of cloud data platforms (Snowflake) and orchestration (Airflow)
Technical knowledge of ETL frameworks (dbt) and patterns
Pay Range Details
The base pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.
Colorado $185,800-$306,600 (annually)
Washington $185,800-$338,800 (annually)
California $185,800-$371,100 (annually)
NYC $205,400-$371,100 (annually)
The pay range above is the general base pay range for you in the state listed. Your actual salary/wage may be based on several factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, market and business considerations. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on company performance, depending on the terms of the applicable plan and your role.
