What You'll Do

As a hybrid Indirect Tax Research Manager for the Property tax and Communications Tax Research team working in Pune. You will lead a team of 6 researchers as they research tax law, tax rates, and reporting and remittance requirements to keep Avalara products in compliance with jurisdictional tax laws. You will foster an engaging work environment and facilitate collaboration between tax research and engineering change deployment teams. You will report to the Indirect Tax leadership team


What Your Responsibilities Will Be

  • Determine how best to use team resources to and efficiency in delivering on team goals and meeting leadership goals.
  • Oversee the research of tax law, reporting, and remittance requirements to keep our tax products in compliance with federal, state, county, and local jurisdiction tax laws for property tax and telecommunication tax
  • Lead your team of Indirect Tax Researchers in Pune as they apply taxability changes to our software, providing review of their research and work product for telecommunication tax and Property tax
  • Work with Several teams in the US daily to resolve problems and set priorities for your team
  • Develop as an expert in multiple tax types for collaboration in setting team goals and managing business expectations.
  • Manage a response to customer tax questions as assigned to your team
  • When opportunities to further automate processes exist, raise them to ensure prioritization and ticket creation for Content Engineering

What You'll Need to be Successful

  • You bring five years related experience and at least one year in a leadership role managing research teams working in North America tax research.
  • You will provide hands-on guidance to team members while ensuring accuracy and efficiency in project execution
  • You have legal research experience and an approach to analysing how the language in the law translates to tax calculation.
  • You have a relevant bachelor's degree (i.e. Accounting, Finance, Law, and Economics)
  • You are knowledgeable in database management systems
