As our Tax Senior Manager, a newly created position to support our internal global tax function, you will report to the Tax Director and will have a primary focus on accounting for income taxes for Avalara's global entities. You will also be involved with federal, state, and foreign income tax matters including compliance, audits, and planning. The Tax Senior Manager can be remote within the United States. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.
What Your Responsibilities Will Be
- You will lead the global tax accounting and reporting lifecycle, including quarterly and annual tax provisions, taxes payable, effective tax rate, uncertain tax positions, and related financial statement disclosures;
- Review and/or prepare tax calculations, forms, and other information necessary for U.S. and international income tax provision, compliance, credits, and forecasting including coordination with external advisors;
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve the timeliness, accuracy, and efficiency of the tax provision and compliance processes;
- Execute, monitor, and document tax-related SOX controls and implement opportunities to enhance the tax risk and control environment;
- Develop and implement comprehensive tax financial reporting and compliance solutions to support global business developments and to meet the requirement of new and evolving tax laws, regulations, and financial reporting requirements;
- Develop, update and maintain income tax forecasts needed for financial reporting, estimated payments, and cash tax projections; and
- Execute complex tax project goals across a multi-functional team, including Accounting, Finance, Legal, and business teams.
What You'll Need to be Successful
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (advanced degree or CPA a plus)
- Minimum 8 years of combined experience at a public accounting firm and/or in industry
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with an understanding of accounting for income taxes for multinational companies and ASC 740
- Demonstrated experience improving ASC 740 processes
- Broad experience with US income tax and related filings, especially Forms 1120 and state equivalents
- Excellent research skills, including a focus on documentation
- Working knowledge of cross-border tax concepts including transfer pricing, permanent establishment, foreign tax credits, BEAT, GILTI, CbCR, and Pillar 2
- Significant experience with ONESOURCE Tax Provision (OTP) software
- Highly proficient in reconciling and analyzing data using Excel
- Experience recording journal entries, running reports, and otherwise using and navigating general ledger systems (Netsuite a plus)
