Avalara is growing, and we are developing a unified One Content Platform to source and manage all tax and compliance content. Imagine having all the world's compliance information in one place. As part of this initiative, you will lead a team of 8-10 software engineers, including Software Engineers in Test and SREs, to bring Avalara's vision to life. While we prefer candidates based in Pune, we are open to remote candidates with a strong background and relevant skill set.
In addition, we are transforming how our researchers work by harnessing the power of Generative AI. In this role, you will have the opportunity to combine Generative AI with your engineering expertise to build the next-generation content platform. You will be reporting to Sr. Manager, Software Engineering.
What You'll Need to be Successful
Job Duties
- Lead and manage a group of engineers and leads
- Define and execute engineering roadmap, quarterly product goals and sprint plans
- Drive discussions with content researchers and product managers to define new features
- Progress updates, product demos and presentations to leaders and executives
- Define and execute features to improve quality and automation
- Respond promptly and adhere to SLAs for production issues and customer escalations
- Review program OKRs for success and align with the team goals
- Build and manage good relationship with the product management, program management and cross functional teams
- Achieve hiring and retention targets of the team
- Maintain high productivity, morale and growth culture in the team
- Promote best practices and contributing in community presence
- Ensure team is following agile and other set processes
- Act as a mentor/coach to engineers and leads to share your knowledge and expertise
Qualifications
- Bachelor/master's degree in computer science or equivalent
- 10 to 12 years of full stack experience in software development including 3+ years of managerial experience
- Expert in .Net/Java/Python programming language
- Experience of working on AWS Cloud and DevOps (Terraform, Docker, ECS, Kubernetes etc.)
- Experience launching products into production and supporting products/services with strict SLA
- Experience running projects with test automation
- Hands on experience building scalable distributed systems with service-oriented architecture in the containerized environment with public cloud infrastructures.
- Experience building solution using Generative AI preferred
