Job Description

What You'll Do

As a Senior DevOps Release Engineer at Avalara, you will play a crucial role in managing and automating the software release process. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of software products, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, and contribute to the overall improvement of the development workflow.

Key Responsibilities:

CI/CD Pipeline Management:
Design, implement, and maintain robust and scalable CI/CD pipelines to automate the software delivery process.
Collaborate with development, testing, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of code changes into various environments.

Release Management:
Manage software releases, coordinating with different teams to schedule and execute releases with minimal downtime.
Implement and improve release procedures to enhance reliability and efficiency.

Automation and Scripting:
Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline repetitive tasks and enhance the overall release process.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement solutions to optimize release engineering workflows.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
Utilize Infrastructure as Code principles to manage and provision infrastructure resources efficiently.
Collaborate with the infrastructure team to ensure the consistency and reliability of infrastructure configurations.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
Implement monitoring solutions to track the health and performance of release processes.
Quickly respond to and troubleshoot issues related to the release pipeline, ensuring timely resolution.

Team Leadership:
Provide technical supervision and mentor the junior devops team members.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the team


What You'll Need to be Successful

7 to 12 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or Release Engineer in a fast-paced development environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Ruby.
Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI or Jenkins.
Strong knowledge of version control systems (Git, SVN) and branching strategies.
Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
Knowledge of infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) is a plus.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.
